Contributors

There are two key ways in which you can contribute to this project:

  • Engage in the active translation of texts
  • As as a project overseer ensuring the accuracy of translations

Ideally, the user who suggests a text for translation would act as project leader on their respective translation.

Who can contribute to the Medieval Texts Translations Project?

Anyone with a reasonable knowledge of Latin, or more specifically Medieval Latin. Therefore, the project welcomes:

  • Academics
  • Independent Scholars
  • Teachers
  • Students
  • and anyone else – there are no restrictions.

One particular way this project could be used is within the classroom. University staff who teach Medieval Latin courses could utilise this in the classroom as an educational tool to allow students to translate relatively unknown texts in a range of different styles of writing.

Why contribute to the Medieval Texts Translation Project?

In its essence, it is for the love of medieval literature! But beyond that is the knowledge that you are helping future generations to be exposed to a greater breadth of medieval writings, and as a result a better knowledge of the medieval world. More worldly reasons to get involved include:

  • assistance in translating a text you are currently working on
  • expedites the process of translation
  • ensures accuracy and compromise in translation through multiple reviews of the translation
  • as project leader or a project overseer, you can use that on a CV
  • translations may lead to publications which will boost future opportunities
  • to learn something new!

In addition, in order to help get this project off the ground, I would welcome any assistance. This could range from helping with IT, promoting the project to institutions, promoting it to fellow medievalists, or more generally assist in the administration of the project. Currently, this would be volunteer but the goal is secure a funding grant to develop this project into something much bigger.
